Volunteer Reflection: Katy Hastings & NIFA Opportunity – Kenya III, 2023
Katy Hastings, RNFA, is an Operating Room Nurse from San Diego, CA. She first connected with Mission to Heal through NIFA after hearing Dr. Geelhoed give a presentation to their current students and recent graduates. As someone who has participated in numerous missions around the world, Katy was immediately interested in joining Mission to Heal this year.
Presented with the opportunity to volunteer with us on the Kenya III mission, Katy was excited to be part of an established organization and learn what it looks like to do missions sustainably. You can find her volunteer reflection below.
Mission to Heal is unlike other groups I have worked with because they strongly believe in their mission of teaching local clinicians so that they can carry on this work for years to come. I was able to share my clinical knowledge with local staff who were so appreciative of the opportunity to learn and practice their new skills right away, as well as delivering much needed supplies to their patients.
I feel that I was able to make a long lasting, positive impact on these very remote communities, and I look forward to maintaining these relationships for years to come.
