On the Road Again to Kenya

January 7, 2023 Missions

The drive back to Kenya feels like a journey to a long-awaited country.

In March of 2020, along with the rest of the world, our team set travel and adventure to the side and returned to our homes for an unforeseen period of time. This meant putting a pin in our plans to bring the Mobile Surgical Units to the Lake Turkana region. We hoped that someday we could return to this place that feels like a second or third home.

As our trucks crossed the border from Uganda to Kenya on January 6, 2023, we felt a new energy for our upcoming mission and a reminder of why we continue to return to Kenya. We are excited to bring community health and surgical education back to rural and underserved regions after a pandemic that stretched healthcare systems to their maximum.

Mission to Heal is eager to reunite with our nonprofit partner in Kenya, Winds of Change Foundation, who shares our vision of improving the capacity of local healthcare practitioners. Winds of Change works across Marsabit County (which has a population of almost half a million people) to upgrade healthcare facilities. They also partner with important stakeholders to provide outreach programs with healthcare-related initiatives.

In a 2020 email from Winds of Change’s leadership, they said

We are still looking forward to having M2H on the ground. Your services are invaluable to the community.

And 3 years later, we’re glad to be back!
