Have you ever wondered how you can help Mission to Heal? You may know about our volunteer and donation opportunities, but even a simple letter can carry transformative power. We received such a letter from Dakota, a high school student from Washington D.C. Dakota learned about M2H through our South Sudan documentary, which inspired future studies in medicine. Thank you for the encouragement, Dakota!

Hello!

To whom it may concern,

I first heard about your organization when I was ten and saw a documentary about the trip to South Sudan in 2010. What Mission to Heal does has inspired me to study medicine as I continue my journey through education in college. The impact of what organizations like you do I think goes underrecognized in more western-idealized, developed countries that take things like basic medical care and having doctors that know what they are doing for granted.

Now, my school, Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, requires every student to take a class called “Catholic Social Teachings.” This class generally revolves around the discussion of what is the right thing to do and how to be a good, caring person in the eyes of the church and in line with church doctrine. Along with learning about these ideas, we apply them through a day of service in a soup kitchen and, at minimum, 40 hours of service. For my 49 hours of service, I worked at S.O.M.E (So Others Might Eat), in their medical clinic during the summer (~100 hours). The general population served is the impoverished and homeless of D.C. Through my work in this clinic, I gained a better appreciation of what it is like to do even a small fraction of what your organization does.

Once again, I am in awe of what your organization has been able to accomplish, and I hope that even a small donation will help you carry out your mission.

Sincerely,

Dakota Skinner

Have you ever wondered how you can help Mission to Heal?
